Cozy spot where the waitress knows your name, and is super sweet even when she doesn't. It wasn't until we stumbled upon here that I realized Michigan hasn't been misspelling "pastry" on all their storefronts. I had a Pasty for the first time ever! They were tasty, especially with coleslaw & gravy. The real star, however, was their homemade pies in flavors I've never seen before: oatmeal pecan coconut, and ABC (Apple, blueberry, cherry). They don't sell whole pies unless you pre-order them. So we just cleaned then out. Nostalgic, friendly place, with free wifi.

Yum!!!! On vacation and we've never really found a great restaurant in St. Ignace, until now! The food was wonderful! The kids had hot dogs with fresh cut fries. Husband had roast beef that was very tender with homemade gravy and mashed potatoes. I had the homemade split pea soup and it was delicious! For dessert, we shared the berries of the forest pie with a scoop of ice cream. It was amazing!

Take a lovely step back in time at this classic diner (free wifi too though!). Lots of locals, always a good time, and a super friendly staff. We went for breakfast, had delicious omelets made from truly beaten eggs (not the nasty pre-mixed variety). Little bit slow as a result, so don't go if you're in a huge hurry. Besides, you don't want to rush through the awesome local flavor of this place. We were SO tempted by the homemade pies calling to us from the counter but since it was early we resisted. Next time though... I can't believe this is the first review they've gotten on Yelp. Great place we'll definitely be back!

Home made food. Pastie with gravy was good. French fries were homemade. Split pea soup was homemade and better than average with chunks of ham. Freshly made fruit-of-the-forest berry pie was incredible!

Amazing pies and great pasties. Service was timely. Space is very small but very cute. It's a great place to go and see. They have the old soda and malt bar sitting out behind the bar, that they are just using for storage and decor. We got the chicken pasty. They will serve with gravy if you ask, but it didn't need it. It was very moist and hot. It was served with chicken gravy, so I'm sure they would serve the beef pasty with beef gravy. We also got the peach raspberry cobbler hot, with ice cream. Freaking awesome. I don't usually care for fruit pies, but this was so perfectly sweet and tart, and not too overwhelming. I ate half my poor husbands pie.

Old school diner and ice cream parlor across from the lake. Staff was friendly. They let us try the rutabaga soup since we hadn't had rutabaga before. Beef pasty and BLT were good. Kind of a small place so it may fill up fast during busy times.

The first time I visited Bentley's B-N-L, I was 8 years old and it was the 80s. My dad and I used to eat lunch there in the summertime, and I had fond memories of it, so a few years ago I made a point of going back during a visit to the U.P. All I have to say is: PIE! PIE! PIE! The folks at Bentley's make REAL homemade pie, from scratch, in several varieties, fresh every single day. This is the real deal, folks (and they even let the pies cool in the window so everyone knows when they're ready!). Today we went for a quick, inexpensive lunch (standard diner fare, made from scratch) and finished it off with a slice of Fruit of the Woods (apple, blueberry, and some other berry--maybe raspberry?) pie. It was just as good as I remembered! We'll definitely be back on our next visit to the U.P. Cool décor, too--vintage diner style, humble but comfortable.

What a find. We were driving around St. Ignace after a day on the island, and we were both looking for a place selling pasties. Apparently that's not easy to find for dinner time - the restaurants specializing in pasties were all closed. So, in the rain, we caught Bentley's sign on State St that mentioned they sold pasties. Excellent! We both ordered a beef pasty, and they were tasty. The filling was great, the crust a bit too soggy... but that was a small nitpick. The real winner though was the dessert - we both got a slice of the cherry berry pie and it was divine - the crust was clearly homemade, the filling deliciously sweet, and the ice cream on top hit the spot. The waitresses clearly enjoy working with each other and are bursting with classic small town charm. This is the kind of pretention-less place that doesn't exist back where I live and it was great to be able to go here. 5 stars all the way.

Definitely a diamond in the rough for the UP. Was in St. Ignace for work and found this place on Wednesday (this always happens - why can't I find these places sooner?!). Stopped in for a coffee earlier in the day and realized it wasn't a "cafe" but rather a diner style restaurant. So I went back later in the evening for dinner. The two people working were starting to close up shop but were more than accommodating; they invited me to sit down and were quick to point out some popular items. I ended up ordering the grilled whitefish. Fish was great. Fries are thick, square, and fresh cut. Was talking with one of the ladies working, who mentioned they get a lot of their products locally. Obviously fish from the market in town, meat from St. Ignace, bacon from nearby, home made desserts, homemade breakfast pasties, etc. Between the awesome service, great tasting food, and local flavor. This place gets 5 stars. If I could give it bonus points for being in such a nice setting in downtown St. Ignace I probably would :) PS - it's good AND affordable food.

I loved the food. I had the grilled cheese with roasted peppers, onion, mushroom, tomato, etc. husband had a pastie...amazed by the homemade chips, fries, and PIE! It was real homemade pie! Don't find that much on our travels. This place had been around since the 40's. Small place but good food. Would stop by again. :)

We had a group of 10 for breakfast here. We arrived just after 11am, but the waitress stated that we could still get breakfast even though it is usually only served til 11am. That seemed nice until she told us that we all HAD to get breakfast. Not so nice. I ordered the steak omelet and added tomatoes to it. FYI, I was charged $0.50 for the 1/8 of a tomato that was in my omelet and wasn't informed of this til I received the bill. My omelet also came covered in cheese, although that wasn't stated in the description. I was able to scrape most of it off though. Decent food, but pricing was a little high for the area. My husband and I both had omelets and a beverage, the total was almost $20! We'll go somewhere else next time we are in the area.

Great whitefish sandwich. It was fresh and sweet. AWESOME maple oatmeal pie!!! Best pie ever. It was nutty and crunchy top. I am not a pie fan but I love that pie and would always want to order a whole maple oatmeal pie to take home.

Came here for ice cream on a Saturday night prior to fireworks. The place was PACKED. Even though it was hot and busy (No A/C here, folks) the ladies working the counter were so sweet, funny, and helpful. The prices were reasonable and the ice cream was cold and flavorful. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars was I only had ice cream, not a full meal.

I didn't eat anything here on the menu, as I'm admittedly fussy and I eat very healthy vegetarian fare at home. BUT. Oh my. I love pie. I was on vacation and stopped by The Garden, a restaurant which sadly doesn't live up to what's written on the building, and asked for pie. The server considerately confided in me that it was 5 days old, and referred me to Bentley's. I was so excited to see the ABC, apple blueberry cherry in a lovely crust with an amazing crumbly brown sugar butter type stuff on top, I promptly ate a piece. As I ate it, I contemplated the rhubarb cinnamon, and, I then ate a whole piece of that. With little or nothing for a city girl like me to eat in St. Ignace, I was thrilled to death to find this pie. I went back day after die, trying the maple oatmeal but ultimately circling back to the ABC. We brought a whole pie to our friends on Mackinac, and, I thought my fellow ferry goers may attack me for my pie! Best pie I've EVER had, anywhere, hands down, in my whole life. Can't wait to have some next year.

Fantastic food, great service and good coffee. We went during breakfast, I highly recommend the sausage gravy. Love the 50's dining experience, this will be our breakfast stop when we are in the city!

Our family went there and had a good meal. I personally wanted a true Pastie made in the UP. This is what comfort food is all about. Very savory and filling. I would go and get one again.

We stopped by for a waffle cone and went back for breakfast the next morning. So friendly! He had the biscuits smothered in gravy & fresh hash browns. I had the breakfast skillet which was fresh eggs, potatoes, onions, peppers and added bacon. Nom! We both had to leave some food behind much to our surprise. Decent coffee. Great value. I am GF and simply skipped the bread. We were the first in the door so first on the stove.

Heavy, dense pasties with a rich gravy --- excellent if you need a warm-up. Jovial servers, goofy decor, and some soup to warm you up. The vegetarian pasty was reasonable --- definitely not as robust as the beef, but it did involve some real veggies (rather than the frozen-peas-and-carrots filling I've sometimes encountered). The gravy really is quite heavy, as is the dough; and these are plate-and-fork pasties, no way you could carry this in a lunch pail into a mine. This used to be the "Bentley's Breakfast-n-Lunch," but now it's "Bentley's B-M-L" named after the owner's daughters. The servers have a high tolerance for weird tourists, but there may be laughter if they think you can take it. They correctly thought I could.

This restaurant is a diamond in the rough! A family run hole in the wall with really really good food. The white fish had a very thin batter and fried crisp and crunchy and the fish was hot, tender and tasty. The Cole slaw was probably better than my own and that's hard to admit. The fries could have been cooked a little more but were fresh cut and seasoned well. Other member's of our party had the pie and said it was wonderful. The family that worked there were friendly and seemed to know a lot of the people indicating regular returning customers.

So so happy we were able to have a pasty before heading back to PA (where have NO pasties). It was a Sunday night and nothing was open, so when I saw an Open sign in the window and another neon sign that said Pasties, I was there! This place is vintage and I loved it! My boys and I sat on the bar stools and enjoyed some chatter with the ladies working there. We had one of each kind of pasty - Chicken (with chicken gravy), beef (with beef gravy) and plain veggie. Best pasties we've ever had! I could eat the crust all day long. Soooo doughy and flavorful! The meat, potatoes, and carrots were perfectly mixed with herbs and spices. And they were huge! Well worth the $7.95. I actually shared mine with my son and had some left for my hubby to finish off. Only wish we'd had more time for pie and ice cream. The sea salted caramel ice cream would have paired perfectly with the homemade apple pie! Next time!

We had corn beef hash and some breakfast pasties. Man were they good! I would go here all the time if I lived in St. Ignace. Our server was really nice. She remembered a member of our group that was in there last week! My only regret is not buying a pie. Darn it. Also, there is a lot of fun stuff to look at on the walls and the decor is decidedly retro. All in all, it was fun and delicious, and I want to go again.

Great little restaurant with an Yooper feel. A good place for breakfast. The coffee is good for a small town cafe. They do a lot of business for a small space. The staff is cheerful.

My husband, daughter and I ate here recently. My daughter had a grilled cheese, and my husband had a burger and fries, and they both enjoyed their meals. I had the special of the day, which was hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. My husband also ordered a side of green beans. When the server brought our meal, she placed a small dish of green beans next to my husband, and informed me that she gave him the last of the green beans. Nevermind that they were supposed to come with my meal? The hamburger steak was sitting in a puddle of juice, and my mashed potatoes were drowning in gravy. I don't plan on returning.

this might be a nice breakfast spot but when i came in looking for a place to have dinner on a hot summer day, i was only in the door for about a minute before i left. the place looks pretty old & worn down. the seats had been taped up multiple times and the a/c didn't seem to be working. i didn't stay long enough to try their food.

What a cute little retro cafe! I love the vintage decorations, and enjoyed sitting on a stool at the counter. My husband and I were disappointed that they were out of veggie pasties when we were there, but I enjoyed the fish sandwich I had instead, and my husband enjoyed the veggie burger. Their homemade chips were ok- not great, but I give them credit for attempting homemade. We were pretty full when we finished and so skipped dessert, but the waitresses told us the pies were all made in-house and they looked really tempting. The meringue I saw was HUGE and fluffy. As opposed to what others have said, I felt the prices here were fine. They're a bit higher than other mom-n-pop diners, but we found food to be uniformly pricey in St. Ignace because it's a touristy place. This was actually the cheapest meal of our 3-day stay. Service was great- the staff was very friendly and apologetic about being out of veggie pasties.

A great place for all foods! Its like a old diner! I had a piece of apple pie and it was the best i had in a long time. The pies are all homemade....get it with ice cream and coffee!

Great vintage diner. We came here for a late-night dinner, and I'm pretty sure the server and cook had intended to leave but kept the place open for us. I had the whitefish sandwich, and it didn't taste too oily or greasy. The homemade chips were good. Appreciated the pickle with my meal. They also had a large and yummy ice cream selection. Prices were very reasonable. Service was incredibly friendly. If I go back, I will try the veggie pastie because it looked good!

I just left this great little place. I have been coming to St. Ignace for work for 5 years and had never stopped in here. Boy was I missing out. I had a great bowl of whitefish chowder, a very generous beef pastie that was very well seasoned, and a piece of homemade blueberry pie. The best part was that my total was $14.50. The service was "small town" perfect. They ladies were really nice and kept the place very tidy. Kind of made you feel like you were at grandma's house.
